More beneficiaries of Walsall Business Support grants will be announced in the months ahead.
In 2022, Walsall Business Support provided £5,000 of funding to the Leather Skills Centre for the purchase of new tools to teach the next generation of saddle, bridle and leather goods makers in Walsall.
The grant has enabled the centre to buy specialist equipment for learners at the Skills Centre, helping to train and grow the next generation of highly skilled leather goods makers in the area.
The grants were featured on BBC TV’s Midlands Today, with the beneficiaries among those interviewed. Stu Annikin, saddle director at Albion Saddlemakers, said: “To have this right now in Walsall is perfect because we are finding it much harder to get young people into the trade.”
Walsall Leather Skills Centre manager Christer Dahlberg said: “This is kind of outside the box, to have young people here doing leather work because not many people know it still exists.”
A second Walsall Business Support grant of £5,000 will go to The Equine Fitters Council to administer and operate a new directory of Equine Fitters, which is being launched to improve standards.
