An independent florist has received a £4,500 grant from Walsall Business Support to help fit new security shutters.

Forget Me Not is a local florist based in Station Street in Walsall town centre. With flowers delivered fresh daily from one of Holland’s leading growers, the business specialises in creating bespoke handmade bouquets, bridal packages and personalised funeral tributes. It delivers in Walsall and the surrounding areas.

Business owner Clare Stevens has been running the shop for the past five years, alongside colleague Joffrey and delivery driver Rob.

Walsall Business Support has awarded the grant to Forget Me Not to help install new security shutters following a break-in last year that caused extensive damage to the store.

Clare Stevens commented: “I am very grateful for the grant from Walsall Business Support. Following the break-in, I was left to cover the costs of the damage to my shop and stock, which was devastating for my business.

“It came very close to me closing. I could relocate, but I would like to stay in Walsall as I really want to support the community here. There has been a florist in this location since 1960 and we are the last remaining florist in the area, so it would be a shame to give up.

“The grant will enable me to fit new shutters, which will provide my shop with better security and give me more peace of mind.”

Formed by leading local business figures to distribute funds collected from the legacy of Walsall Chamber of Commerce, Walsall Business Support provides grants to applicants who want funding for projects to enhance business life in the borough.

Walsall Business Support board member Adam Howell said: “Our grants are aimed at businesses looking to bring growth, skills and employment to the borough of Walsall, with the aim of benefitting as many local people as possible.

“We are really pleased to be able to support Clare with this funding, which will help to keep her business trading in Walsall.

“Supporting local businesses is essential for providing employment opportunities and regenerating the town, which will help boost the local economy.

“Clare is committed to serving the local community, and I am confident that helping her to continue operating here will have a positive impact on Walsall and the surrounding area.”
