A Bloxwich engineering business is investing in new machinery and equipment after receiving a £7,000 grant from local funding provider, Walsall Business Support.

Ashcroft Components, founded 10 years ago by Craig Coyne and David Moore, manufactures custom-made, non-standard and fully accredited components for clients across a wide range of industries, including medical, aerospace and agriculture.

After deciding to expand their manufacturing capabilities and invest in an apprentice, Ashcroft Components applied for a grant from Walsall Business Support to purchase new welding equipment, filtration systems, a new bandsaw and updated machine guards.

The investment will also support the company’s new apprentice by ensuring the tools and facilities used in-house align with those currently at local colleges.

Craig Coyne, co-founder of Ashcroft Components, said: “We first worked with Walsall Business Support two years ago and we’ve maintained a relationship ever since. When our biggest customer enquired about new parts, we decided it was time to apply for funding, and the support we received from them was fantastic – the application process was quick, efficient and simple.”

Led by leading business figures to distribute funds collected from the legacy of Walsall Chamber of Commerce, Walsall Business Support offers grants and a free training needs analysis to businesses looking to generate growth, create employment or shape training opportunities within the borough of Walsall.

Walsall Business Support board member, Angela Henderson, said: “Ashcroft Components is a great example of a local manufacturer that continues to invest in people, technology and its community. Supporting businesses like this, that create employment and help young people gain hands-on skills, is exactly what our grants are designed to do.”

Looking ahead, Ashcroft Components has ambitious plans to expand its growing customer base, while continuing to champion its local roots.

Craig added: “Both David and I grew up in Bloxwich; we met at TP Riley Community School and we both support our local football team, Walsall FC. We’ve always wanted to build a business that not only grows with its customers but also creates opportunities in the community we’re from. Being able to employ local people and invest in their development is something we’re incredibly proud of.”
